PERSONALITY. L'ilith Morningstar has a personality as sharp and complex as the world she was thrown into. Her infernal lineage and rebellious nature are wrapped in a cool, detached exterior, hiding a fierce independence and resourcefulness beneath. As the youngest of eight sisters, she’s a natural rule-breaker, but her mischief is seasoned by a shrewd pragmatism—she never takes risks without a payoff. Her wit is sharp, often dark, with a flair for sarcasm and a confidence that borders on cocky; after all, she’s survived the Void and now thrives in a high-tech world she once knew nothing about.Despite her assassin’s edge, L'ilith doesn’t care for cruelty or needless bloodshed, seeing violence as a means to an end rather than a thrill. She understands that every kill is part of her new life’s currency, the “debt” she’s learned to manage and even respect. This pragmatic view tempers her darker tendencies, and, while she’s ruthless on a job, she often feels conflicted about the lengths she’ll go to for survival. Her Voidsent heritage is clear in her pride and fierce loyalty to those who earn her respect, but few make it close enough to break her guarded exterior. She’s witty, fast-talking, and stubborn, but her years with the Syndicate have taught her to be a ghost of herself, adapting to whatever role or disguise is needed. She’s known as the “Ghost in the Machine” for a reason: her heart remains untouchable, locked away behind armor of snark and apathy.Yet, there’s still a bit of that reckless young demon in her—the part that’s drawn to the thrill of the unknown, be it the latest technology or an opponent too bold for their own good. She’s both haunted and propelled by the desire to control her own destiny in a world that has never played fair, and she embraces that struggle as only a true daughter of the Void could. BACKGROUND. L’ilith Morningstar was born the youngest of eight daughters in the depths of the Void, a child of clashing worlds. Her mother, a demoness with blood-red eyes and elegant horns, and her father, a mortal Hyur with a wild spirit, gifted her a look that was strikingly human—save for her mother’s crimson gaze and a pair of small, curved horns that hinted at her infernal blood. Known as the troublemaker among her sisters, she was always the one sneaking off on forbidden adventures, her spirit as restless and rebellious as they came. One day, while wandering the obsidian paths of her hellish home, she found something no demon-child should ever stumble upon: a radiant Golden Gate, gleaming with an otherworldly light. Driven by curiosity and thrill, she stepped through, leaving behind the only world she’d known. Suddenly, L’ilith was swallowed by a kaleidoscope of purples, neons, and strange metallic structures. She had arrived in a sprawling futuristic city, pulsing with colors she’d never seen and sounds she’d never heard. But before she could even think of returning, the gate vanished. She was trapped.Wandering the unfamiliar streets, she drew stares—some curious, some fearful—until she slipped into the shadows, hoping to stay unnoticed. But the city had its own predators. Within hours, she was snatched from the streets and taken into the labyrinth beneath the neon-lit towers. When the hood over her head was removed, she found herself seated across from three figures dressed in dark, high-tech armor, faces obscured, except for the eerie blue lights emanating from their headgear. They spoke in a language she couldn’t understand, but the curiosity in their eyes was clear: they’d never seen anyone like her.Over time, L’ilith came to understand them—and they, her. She was taken in by the Soul Hacker Syndicate, a secretive group of spies and contract killers. She quickly excelled, her demonic instincts and rebellious edge making her the perfect recruit for their work. The Syndicate harvested souls from the city's encrypted databases, or outright killed to take them—an economy of souls she knew all too well, it was like being back home for her. As her reputation grew, she earned the name “Ghost in the Machine,” feared throughout the city as a phantom who could slip through any network, bypass any defense, and reap any soul without a trace. She became one of the Syndicate’s most skilled Journeymen, outfitted with her own sleek black armor, adorned with faint crimson lights which marked her as a high ranking Syndicate assassin. The modified regulator on her head stores the souls she takes, but its simpler purpose marks her as an Alexandrian Citizen. When she roams the city’s darkest sectors, known as Solution 9, there’s only one mantra she keeps in mind: “Every breath is a debt.”
